School

Part time classes are available for:

  • Juniors - age 7 to 11
  • Seniors from age 12 to 15
  • Senior Plus from 16 to adult

PROPS Class is held for 3 hours on a Friday evening from 6pm till 9pm.

LAMDA classes are held on a Tuesday evening:

  • Juniors up to Grade 5 - 6pm till 7.30pm
  • Seniors & Adults up to Level 5 - 6pm till 8.30pm

Seniors

From the age of 14 or 15 students are encouraged to take a more structured approach to their work and life at PROPS whether they intend to pursue a career in the performing arts or not.

They are expected to:

  • become involved in the day to day running of the school sharing responsibility for tasks such as registration, supervising breaks and warm up sessions.

They are encouraged to:

  • commit themselves to a range of production activities - stage, set, costume, marketing etc.

If they have not already done so they are encouraged to:

  • follow one or more of the extra courses on offer - e.g. L.A.M.D.A., filming, etc

Age 16 plus/adult

By this stage many students may be considering or have decided to follow a career in the theatre/ performing arts. PROPS is able to offer a structured and personal programme of study and experience.

Senior/adult students are expected to:

  • demonstrate a positive, disciplined, self motivated approach to their work.

Students are encouraged to:

  • take a realistic approach to their own personal action plans concentrating on steady progress with regular and continuing review procedures.
  • take on a wide range of performance and production roles
  • take an active part in the running of PROPS as a working, performing company made up of people of all ages

Nationwide theatre trips, workshops and educational visits.

Individual interests in particular plays, actors, directors, genre or style are followed up whenever possible allowing students the chance to benefit from and experience the very best the industry has to offer enabling them to develop their own interests and knowledge at the same time as sharing and learning from those of their peers.

Drama Productions

PROPS produces several shows a year with its part time students including Musical theatre, drama, variety and pantomimes - all performed to the general public.

Past productions include: classics such as The Seagull by Anton Chekov and Shakespeare's Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and Taming of the Shrew new plays and devised works including Camelot Revisited, Innocent Bystanders, Revolution and contemporary plays such as Michel Azama's Crossfire, Roberto Zucco by Bernard-Marie KOLTES and In the Blinking of an Eye by Jeremy Hylton Davies plus countless cabaret and variety shows, musical theatre work and drama showcases.

Film work includes: a Feature film version of Revolution and involvement in the acting, costume and production of Sally Pearce's award nominated short film Henry and May. The documentary about the history of Ysgol John Bright School has now been completed and distributed. This 4 hour film is in 2 parts is now on sale and available on DVD or VHS.

H A Films is the filming department of Props Theatre Arts School. Opportunities exist to film, edit and finish all sorts of events, stage productions and feature films. See the HA Films page on the Anvil Productions website for more.
